Equipment suitability

By the end of this lesson
- Compare required amounts with validated tool ranges
- Recognize resolution and capacity limits
- Choose direct measurement or dilution for a reason
Examples use a decimal point; a comma groups thousands.
See it
A mathematically correct quantity may be smaller than a scale, syringe, or pipette can measure reliably. MyTCLab's equipment-aware approach compares the required amount with the user's saved equipment resolution or minimum practical volume.
Understand it
Compare required amounts with validated tool ranges
Measurement resolution matters at the low end.
A correct calculation can still be impractical if the chosen equipment cannot reliably measure the amount.
Recognize resolution and capacity limits
Capacity matters at the high end.
Small amounts must be checked against resolution and validated practical minima, not capacity alone.
Choose direct measurement or dilution for a reason
A dilution can sometimes move a required draw into a measurable range.
Fifty-six microliters is within 20–200 µL, so small size alone does not justify an extra dilution.
Worked example
A 56 µL draw fits a saved P200 range of 20–200 µL, so a suitable direct draw does not need a dilution just because it looks small. A 5 µL requirement is below that range; review another suitable tool or a chemically appropriate dilution. These are equipment examples, not PGR recipes.
Explain your decision before opening the worked reasoning below.
Show the worked reasoning
A limitation should be explicit; silently removing a nonzero amount changes the intended treatment.
Equipment suitability and chemical suitability must both be considered before changing how an amount is measured.
The software should warn rather than silently round a nonzero amount to zero.

Which tool fits 56 µL in the example?
Use the worked example above to explain your answer in your own words before taking the quiz.

Apply it
Use the worked example to write a short decision record: what did you observe, which rule did you apply, and what would you check before acting?
Completion marks reading progress, not a quiz pass or professional certification.
